    The Museum

In the interior of the castle there is a spacious museum of the Bohemian countryside. This permanent exposition includes up to 4 000 exhibits originating from the whole Czech Republic and also from neighbouring Slovakia, and shows everyday country life in the period of time of 17th to the beginning of the 20th century.

During a tour of the museum you will visit folkish workshops of some traditional crafts (blacksmith, miller, baker, woodcarver, barrel maker, butcher, wheelwright, knife-grinder and glass cutter, shoemaker), dwelling rustic chambers that are typical for various regions (foothills of the Krkonoše Mountains, a region called Chodsko which lies in the south-east of Bohemia, a region around the town of Litomyšl that is located in the east of Bohemia, the land of Moravia, Slovakia and the region around the town of Cheb in the west of Bohemia) equipped with hand-painted and in other ways decorated furniture, rustic or folk costumes (rustic or folk costumes were sort of dress uniforms, worn on special occasions like feast days, holy days and other celebrations) and also equipped with other domestic appliances of period folk culture. Next, you will see rooms with some exhibits of folk tools, products and appliances used in everyday life. Some exhibits on display are sellable.

An antique shop is an integral part of the museum where you can buy things typical of earlier times, also tickets for a guided tour and some souveniers.

A guided tour of the castle includes a visit to the museum, folkish workrooms with facilities showing the environment of traditional crafts, a chapel and a knight’s hall with a wide-ranging illustration of armament and weapons.
